Bomb Rush Cyberfunk just launched and already has a cult following
Bring out your inner artist and defy gravity in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, an indie game by Team Reptile that I’m sure needs no introduction for many of you. In fact, while it just released a few days ago, it already has a cult following thanks to its aesthetics and gameplay. For most, it’s reminiscent of Sega’s iconic Jet Set Radio, and has been heavily compared to it already, and there are a few good reasons for that. The game just launched on Steam for PC, and will soon be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on September 1st.
Becoming a Graffiti Legend
Dive into the city of New Amsterdam, a sprawling metropolis where graffiti crews rule the streets. And what’s a better way to make a statement than to paint the town red (or any color you prefer)? In Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, you aim to conquer the five boroughs and become All City, the ultimate graffiti legend.
Join the Bomb Rush Crew as Red, a graffiti writer who lost his head and uses a cyberhead instead. Together with Tryce and Bel, Red aims to go to All City and find out who cut off his head. The game offers a fantastic backdrop for a compelling story that links the main character’s past to the graffiti world, and I’m here for it.
Express yourself with style
As someone who enjoys games that offer freedom of movement and self-expression, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a dream come true. It’s not just about painting; it’s about how you get there. With a personal boostpack strapped to your back, you can jet through the city, tagging graffiti spots while suspended in mid-air.
With skateboarding, inline skating, or BMX-style tricks, you can showcase your unique style and creativity. Long combos will earn you boost power, so the more stylish your moves, the faster you can navigate the city. But be wary – the more you vandalize, the more attention you’ll get from the dynamic militarized police.
This game is jet-set for success
Put simply, this is a crazy cool mix of Marc Ecko’s Getting Up and Tony Hawk Pro Skater, all wrapped in a Jet Set Radio-style package. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk nails the musical aspect too. Several tracks were produced by Jet Set Radio’s soundtrack composer Hideki Nagamura and add to the funky vibe of the game, and further fuel that cult following I mentioned.
Anyway, I’ve already got this in my cart and I’m excited to dive in. I’m going to spin up some reviews for Indie Game Mode, so stay tuned. I’m thinking this will be one of the first for the site!
